DISTRICT 19 FUTURE POTENTIAL

URA Hougang, Lorong Halus & Defu Masterplan

The Northern Gateway is the entrance to growth opportunities in new innovative sectors (e.g. Agri-Tech & Food, Digital Tech & Cybersecurity) through the development of the new Agri-Food Innovation Park at Sungei Kadut and Punggol Digital District based on the URA Masteplan 2019.

Lorong Halus Industrial Park will be progressively developed as a Food, Lifestyle and Logistics cluster, next to the upcoming Defu MRT Station on the Cross Island Line. It will be sensitively designed to be pedestrian-centric, with access to waterfront parks and open spaces for workers and nearby residents to enjoy.

Defu Industrial Park will also be progressively replaced as the area undergoes a three-phase redevelopment between 2027 to 2032. 

These implementation will in turn provide jobs for people close to their homes andwill allow residents to fully enjoy the convenience of living along the upcoming North East Line (NEL) and future Circle Line (CCL).

PUNGGOL DIGITAL DISTRICT

The 50-hectare Punggol Digital District, which will incorporate a business park, the Singapore Institute of Technology’s new campus as well as community facilities, will foster innovation and collaboration

 

The construction is on track for completion from 2023 and will create about 28,000 jobs in fields such as cybersecurity and data analytics, creating job opportunities “close to home”.

DEFU INDUSTRIAL PARK

Defu Industrial Park will be progressively replaced as the area undergoes a three-phase redevelopment between 2027 to 2032. The factory floor space will grow fivefold to 2.1 million sqm.

The new industrial park will eventually house three key zones.

  • Northern Zone: Mainly for logistics industries

  • Central Zone: Precision engineering, infocomms & media, electronics, clean energy & biomedical industries

  • Southern Zone: modern large floor-plate ramp-up industrial complexes to house the existing industrialists in Defu Industrial Estate

LORONG HALUS INDUSTRIAL PARK

The Lorong Halus Industrial Park, which is over 100-hectare in size, will be Singapore’s first industrial park built on a former landfill. It is envisioned to be a next-generation industrial park that will incorporate topographic features of the existing landfill.

Catering to light and clean industries such as food, lifestyle and logistics, Lorong Halus Industrial Park will be developed to become a major employment centre and provide more jobs closer to homes in the North-East region.

CROSS ISLAND LINE

Hougang MRT Interchange

Singapore's eighth MRT line, will be our longest fully underground line at more than 50 kilometres long. It will serve existing and future developments in the eastern, western, and north-eastern corridors, connecting major hubs such as Jurong Lake District, Punggol Digital District and Changi region. 

Construction for Phase 1 will begin in 2020 and is due for completion in 2029.
